The captions that are automatically generated can be inaccurate at times, which makes them more distracting than useful. If this is the case, you can turn off captions on the video you’re watching in two simple steps.

  1. Click on the captions.
  2. Click on Hide Caption.

After that, the video will continue to play with no captions in sight. However, you will see a small rectangle in the corner of the screen. If you change your mind and want to turn the captions back on, just click the rectangle.

Some users reported that they were unable to turn off captions on the video directly. If so, the only way to get rid of captions is to turn them off in the app settings. Note, however, that this will turn off captions across the app, not just on the particular video you’re watching.

Follow these steps to turn off automatically generated captions on all TikTok videos:

  1. Tap the “Profile” icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
  2. Click on the menu icon at the top right.
  3. Select “Settings & Privacy” from the popup menu.
  4. Scroll down to “Accessibility” under “Content and Activity”.
  5. Turn off the “Always show captions” option.

Now you don’t have to turn off captions on every video you watch. But, you will still be able to see the rectangle indicating that the video has captions.
