What is your favorite video conferencing app? If the answer is Google Meet, then you will already know all about its excellent features. How you can join a meeting in many ways, share your screen, and record the meetings itself.
But all of that can get complicated if you’re having video issues. What can you do if Google Meet does not detect the camera? Well, fortunately, there are some solutions that you can try. Sometimes, a simple solution will do. Other times, there is little effort involved.
Check your camera
If you are using a desktop computer and a webcam is connected to a USB port, the connection can often be disconnected. You must make sure that the camera is installed in the USB port correctly and that it is turned on.
Just in case, disconnect and reattach it before trying to join a Google Meet video call again. If your external webcam is not responding, it’s time to check if it works with a different computer. If another device cannot detect it, it may be defective.
If you’re using the built-in webcam on your laptop, and it’s not showing up in a Google Meet video, try closing the meeting video first, and opening it again. Sometimes, this simple trick will work.
You can check if your webcam drivers are up to date as well. And if not, download and install the updates on your computer. But if that doesn’t work, then move on to the next possible solution.
Also check camera permissions
Sometimes every new website seems to ask for permission to use your microphone, camera, and a lot of other data. Either you are used to accepting everything or immediately block it. In the case of the latter, this may block the necessary permissions on Google Meet.
You must allow Google Meet to access your camera if you want to participate in the meeting. Otherwise, the camera will not appear. If you’re starting a Google Meet video call for the first time, tap “Allow” when asked to grant access to the camera.
But in case it’s already blocked by mistake, that’s okay, you can change that. This is what you do:
- Open your web browser and go to Google is dead.
- Select New Meeting.
- In the upper right corner, select “Camera is blocked”.
- Check “Always allow https://meet.google.com to access your camera and microphone”.
- Select Done. The video will start automatically.
Update the Google Meet app
Although some Google Meet features like recording will only work in a web browser, the app works just fine. But you should check for updates from time to time. Occasionally, there are bugs and features that Google has fixed so the version of the app you have may not respond well anymore.
Also, if the Google Meet app on your smart device is up to date, but you’re still having issues with the camera, try to force stop the app. Then turn it back on and see if the camera is detected.
Check your internet connection
When a program or application malfunctions, the first thing to check is the Internet connection. What type of wireless connection are you using? If you are at home, check your router. Is it in the right place and is there something blocking the signal? If it is in the correct place, reset the router and check again.
When the internet signal is weak and the connection is unstable, it is not uncommon for the camera feature to not work. And if you’re not at home, you might not know what kind of connection you’re on. You can perform a file speed testAnd, if it is weak, try changing the networks.
Clearing the cache from your internet browser and Google Meet is another step you might want to consider. This solution often fixes a lot of problems with Google Meet.
If you use Chrome to access Google Meet, which you should probably do because they are more compatible, this is how you clear the cache:
- Go to “Settings” then “Clear browsing data” under “Privacy and security”.
- Check the “Cached images and files” box.
- You can also check “Cookies and other site data” if you want. But this will get you out of most sites.
- Select “Clear data”.
You can now close all windows and restart your computer. Once the system is backed up, you can try to start or join another Google Meet video.
Find the perfect camera angle
Unless your webcam is down, there is always a solution to the “No Camera Found” problem. Of course, it could be on Google’s part, but this is rare and usually gets corrected quickly.
Checking permissions and connections should be at the top of the list of solutions. Whether you use Google Meet from your computer or mobile device. But none of the above solutions should make the camera work again.
