Many iPhone and iPad users rely on the iMessage app to send and send text messages and videos, but is there a way to know if someone has blocked you? Unfortunately, users do not receive a notification if one of their contacts blocks them.
However, there are a few things you can do to find out if that’s really the case. In this article, we are going to share some methods that you can try to check if someone has blocked you on iMessage.
How to check if someone has blocked you on iMessage
The only sure way to know if someone has blocked you is if they tell you, which is unlikely. However, trying all the methods mentioned below will give you a good idea of where you stand.
Method 1 – Check the color of the text bubble
There is a difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS on iOS devices. When two iPhone users message each other using Wi-Fi or mobile data, their text bubbles are blue, which means they are using iMessage.
However, if the recipient is not connected to the Internet, the text bubble will appear green. This is because you are no longer using iMessage but are sending an SMS. So, if your text bubble is blue and turns green one day, that could be a red flag. The person you are talking to may not have an internet connection or may have changed to an Android device. But if the text bubble changes color and it also takes some time to reply, it could be an indication that they have blocked you.
Method 2 – Check iMessage Delivery Status
Was there Delivered or Read Status under iMessage sent before, now gone? It may mean that the person you are messaging has blocked you on iMessage.
However, it could also mean that they turned off the “Send Read Receipts” option. This doesn’t mean they haven’t seen your message, just that they don’t want you to know they saw it.
It’s not the same as blocking, but you might feel that way if you never get a response. A sudden change in the delivery status of iMessage could indicate an intentional blocking or a need for more privacy.
Method 3 – Check Other Messaging Apps
This solution can come in handy if you or the person you are messaging uses another messaging app as well.
So, if you are not receiving a reply to iMessage, and the delivery status is not available, try messaging them elsewhere. If you are not blocked on other platforms as well, your message will be delivered when your contact is online. If you don’t get a response when trying a different messaging app, then either you’ve been blocked, or the person doesn’t want to reply.
Fourth method – contact them
If someone blocks you on their iPhone, they will not receive your call. Once you dial their number, the phone will ring once and then go straight to voicemail.
True, this could also mean that they are busy and cannot talk. However, if this happens every time you connect, there is a chance that you have been blocked.
Remember that even if you leave a voicemail, the person will not receive a notification about it and likely not hear it.
Method 5 – Check your device
It’s best to check for issues on your end before assuming the worst. For example, the other person might not be responding because you are offline and you don’t know.
Another possibility is that the Messages app is down for some users. Although these events are rare, they do happen from time to time. |
How to block someone on iMessage
It may not be easy to find out if you have been blocked on iMessage, but you can block someone in no time. Here’s how it works:
- go to the Messages Application.
- Find the conversation with the person you want to block.
- Click on informations button on their profile.
- Scroll down and select block this caller.
There is no guaranteed solution
Being banned is never fun. It’s even worse when it comes from someone you’ve been talking to on iMessage. Maybe there’s a reason you think they might have blocked you, or maybe their sudden disappearance leaves you confused.
Either way, it may not be possible to find out if they have blocked you unless they admit it. You can analyze the text bubble color, check delivery receipts, and see if you are blocked on other messaging apps. If the results are not clear, you can try to communicate with a phone call.
But in the end, you’ll wonder if they don’t respond.
